Publications
Information about the natural features and environment of Norfolk Island is scattered in many places. Over time, this website will build into a comprehensive index to sources of scientific and natural history information. Here is a short introduction.
Books
- Books that are in print be purchased at the local bookshop (Taylor’s Road) or Trading Post newsagent (Mall).
- The Norfolk Island Regional Council public library has a good collection of reference books, some available for borrowing by registered members.
- The National Library of Australia’s search engine Trove indexes most Australian publications and also identifies the public libraries on the mainland that hold copies.
An index page appears here.
A special page has been reserved for the Norfolk Island Environment Book: A Teacher’s Guide.
Articles in scientific journals and magazines
- Google Scholar indexes scientific journals and some magazines.
- The Melbourne-based search engine Informit indexes scientific articles and some magazines, specialising in difficult-to-find Australian titles. (Note: entering “Norfolk Island” yields some 2900 references).
- The Australian Museum has compiled a list of articles about Norfolk Island that have been published in its own peer-reviewed journals.
- The Royal Society of Queensland in October 2022 resolved to deem Norfolk Island as being “within Queensland” for the purpose of accepting scientific and natural history articles about the Island for its annual Proceedings, which has been in continuous publication since 1884. See its Proceedings webpage.
